The difference between Buffalo and Cow milk!
There is no doubt about the nutritious value that milk adds to our lives. The health benefits it comes with are of paramount importance for all ages. Rich in protein, calcium, vitamin B12, and more, it is the most sought-after source of nutrition for a healthy lifestyle. We as humans have been consuming milk for centuries, and two of the most prominent sources in the dairy household are buffalo and cow milk.

Well, in various scenarios, most of us have been fine-tuned to believe certain factors, that have been ingrained into our minds about milk when it comes to consistency and quality. A lot of us have been finicky about consistency and fat content, for example, buffalo milk is rich in consistency in comparison to cow milk and vice versa. This comparison topic of cow and buffalo milk has been prevalent for eons, but how do we as individuals go beyond this and excavate some findings for our own benefit and understanding?
Well, being India’s first certified organic cow milk, we have some insights on this for you.
According to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, about 85% of global milk consumption is sourced from cows, and about 11% comes from buffaloes. Cow milk is consumed in most geographies, but buffalo milk is common in Southeast Asia, specifically in India and Pakistan.
Diving deeper into this, there are some significant aspects of milk that are noteworthy.
In terms of texture, buffalo milk is thicker and creamier. This is because it contains higher solids that give its smooth creamier texture. In regards to fat content, cow milk contains 3- 4% and buffalo milk contains 6-8% of fat which is almost two times that of cow milk. This makes cow milk way more suitable for children.
When it comes to health and nutrition, buffalo milk is considered to have less cholesterol, be richer in total proteins, particularly that of casein and whey, and have more calories than cow’s milk. On the other end, cow milk is lighter and easier to digest, and buffalo milk is considered to be heavy for digestion. Cow milk’s low content in fat, protein, and calorie makes it apt for someone who is looking at a fat-free healthy drink, while if you want to gain weight, buffalo milk would be your best bet.
In a nutshell, both sources have the same nutrients but vary in consistency and as dairy consumers, it is important that we understand the difference and consume milk as per our preference and taste.
