Only 9% of the plastic so far in the world has been recycled successfully
It was like magic when man first invented plastic. From saving lives in World War 1 to being used in all aspects of life, from clothes to contact lenses and from mobile phones to automobiles as well as in medical equipment, plastic turned out to be an irreplaceable invention.
In this age of plastic, only 9% of the plastic so far in the world has been successfully recycled!
So, what happens to the rest of the plastic?
It either ends up in landfills or reaches our water ways (oceans, rivers and lakes) after irresponsibly being recycled. And today, it’s slowly even becoming a part of our ecosystem through plastic rains. The oceans daily are being filled with irresponsibly treated plastic water and as the water works its way through the water cycle and reaches the stage of evaporation these water droplets contain microplastic and they condense into the clouds and rain down as plastic rain.
Plastic in itself is not the problem – but how we choose to discard it is!
At Akshayakalpa, we don’t just believe in recycling, we own up to our trash and make sure it is responsibly recycled. Through our give-back the milk pack campaign we actively involve our consumers in recycling by collecting their used milk, buttermilk and curd packets. So far, we have responsibly recycled more than 7000 kg of plastic.
We’ve also shifted our fresh milk to a paperboard eco-friendly packaging model which is a 3-layer sustainable carton made with 100% virgin paper protected through a thin lining of PE.
How do you discard the plastic you use?
Only when you discard your plastic the right way, will there be a chance for it to be recycled responsibly.
