Coconut tree – The Kalpavrishka on earth

Coconut trees are called the tree of life as they are a magnificent symbol of growth, nourishment, and interconnectedness. True to its name, from fruits to leaves every part of the tree has something wonderful to offer.

In India, it is the most popular fruit in our household. Everywhere we go, we find coconut trees, coconut bowls, people drinking tender coconut water, grating coconut in their food and using copra in the most innovative ways you could think of.

Yet coconut farmers in India face key challenges like insecure farmer income, an insufficient supply of productive coconut trees, and low coconut yields. For the past 13 years, we at Akshayakalpa organic have been working towards rejuvenating soil health in and around Tiptur.

We’ve witnessed something amazing!

Although the supply of coconuts saw a drastic decline from 2019 to 2020 in India, at Akshayakalpa we saw a good increase in the coconut yield from 2010 to 2020 from 53 coconuts per tree to 86 coconuts per tree.

And we’ve learned something wonderful along the way. When it comes to mother nature, recovering what we lost is not impossible. We have seen in real how working with soil can turn things around. We believe that the only way to see a change in the world is to be the change.

Hence we work closely with soil every day and run hands-on soil-related workshops like composting for all the people who come to visit us at our farms.

Come join us at our farms and get your hands dirty with soil while you be a part of the changing world.
